More Than Just Socks
Stand Out Socks is a Warrington-based company with a mission that goes far beyond fashion. They exist to create paid jobs and drive social change for people with Down syndrome and other learning disabilities.
Here's a statistic that stopped us in our tracks: there are 1.5 million adults in the UK with a learning disability, but less than 5% are in paid employment. That's not just a number – that's millions of people being overlooked, underestimated, and denied opportunities.
Stand Out Socks is working to change that story.
The Team Behind the Socks
Stand Out Socks was founded by brothers Christian and Ross Laing, along with Christian's fiancée Natalie Dickson. Ross, who has Down syndrome, is the heart and inspiration behind the brand – and today, the team has grown to include five employees with Down syndrome who don't just help out – they design products, train new staff, pack orders with care, and help lead the business.
Every pair of socks is handpicked and packed by the team, presented in their signature orange boxes with tissue paper, a flyer, and a sticker of the team member who packed your order. It's personal. It's thoughtful. And it's making a real difference.

An Award-Winning Mission
The Stand Out Socks story has captured hearts across the UK. Co-founder Ross made history as the first entrepreneur with Down syndrome to secure investment on Dragons' Den. Since then, the company has:
Created nearly 1,000 hours of meaningful paid work for people with Down syndrome and other learning disabilities
Raised over £30,000 for local and national charities
Been featured on national TV, in newspapers, and on the radio
Won the High Sheriff Award for Most Inclusive Business Practice
Launched in Tesco stores nationwide
